Demonstration

IMG_0104As I was shopping the other day, a man came over the announcement system to tell all of us savvy shoppers about an opportunity that we shouldn’t let pass. A well known television personality would be demonstrating a product that “we must have”. The thing is, the product had been on the shelves for months. For months, this incredible product that “we all needed” sat on the shelves practically unnoticed. So with lots of “hype” the store associate invited us to join the demonstration, promising that we would not be disappointed. The presenter showed all the “wows” of the product. And even allowed us to taste the byproduct. The people were sold; the product was sold. One lady even exclaimed “I didn’t know it could do so much!”

It was the demonstration that changed the people’s perspective. This made me think about the greatest demonstration of God’s love.  “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Throughout the Bible, we see God’s love readily available to those who would receive it. Sadly, many have rejected God’s love, leaving it on the shelf in favor of something else. Still, our great, loving God always pursues us. Relentlessly, He chases us with His loving kindness in effort to draw us close to His side. So God demonstrated—”clearly show the existence or truth of (something) by giving proof or evidence”—His love by sending His Son (John 3:16). Jesus demonstrated His love by laying down His life. Love in action; proof positive that we are beloved, accepted, and chosen. He took steps to ensure that we KNOW that He loves us.

We should explore how we are demonstrating God’s love to the world. Do those in our churches, families, and communities know that God loves them? Are they experiencing His love through you? We don’t need “hype” or “fanfare”. Simply share what the Lord has done.  Like the store demonstration, show the love of God. Put His love into action.  Then invite others to “taste and see that the Lord is good” Psalm 34:8a.
