Hello Family!

We have reached the halfway point in our Embrace the Word study, “A Bold Defense: Equipped with the Armor of God.”

When we study familiar scriptures, we risk glancing over them and spending little time with what we “already know.” It is essential that we DO NOT engage in scripture like this, but instead, dive in with your whole heart.

That is why we need to pray each time we encounter scripture. Ask the Lord to show us something new. We need to read with fresh eyes and an open heart to see what the Lord will have us see, learn, and understand. Remember, the Word of God is LIVING. It is always revealing and imparting life to us.

Looking at these passages again, I see a great need for unity when employing the Armor of God.

Our collective mission is to utilize the spiritual weaponry at our disposal to engage in spiritual warfare, pushing back evil forces and advancing the Kingdom of God. As the Church, we stand firm, knowing that the forces of darkness cannot overcome us. We aim not to strive for victory, but to stand in the victory we already have in Christ.

To live in this victory, we must prepare for spiritual battles by walking in unity, wisdom, and love while refusing to give the devil any foothold. This echoes Paul’s directive in Ephesians 4, where he provides practical ways for us to walk in unity as the Body of Christ.

Ephesians 4:27 says, “and give no opportunity to the devil.” When we walk in and promote unity in the Body of Christ, we avoid giving space to the devil. We don’t allow the devil to divide us. We avoid giving him any ground in the spiritual battles.

We need unity when using the armor of God for several reasons:

  1. Support and Encouragement: When we come together in unity, they can encourage, uplift, and pray for one another, providing emotional and spiritual support in times of spiritual warfare.
  2. Complementing Each Other’s Gifts: Unity allows for the harmonious collaboration of our diverse spiritual gifts, enabling each member to contribute authentically. We need everyone!
  3. Accountability and Protection: In unity, believers can hold each other accountable and provide protection against spiritual attacks. By watching out for one another, believers can help identify and address areas of vulnerability, standing together to guard against the enemy’s attempts to divide and conquer.

Unity among believers reflects the unity of Christ’s body, the Church. Just as different parts of the body work together for a common purpose, believers in unity can function harmoniously, with each member playing a vital role in advancing God’s kingdom and resisting spiritual opposition. When believers unite, our prayers are strengthened, and we can intercede for each other, the Church, and the world with greater authority and impact.

This week, we will continue to examine the parts of the armor to learn how to “put on” and use them skillfully and effectively. We will look at the Shield of Faith and the Helmet of Salvation (think unity in the body as you read this week!).
