Family!

It’s Week Two of August’s Embrace The Word theme, “Bold Devotion: You are My Desire,” and we are exploring spiritual disciplines through the lens of the Psalms.

Last week, we focused on the need to employ spiritual disciplines so that we can grow in God and draw closer to Him through our BOLD devotion. We also focus on the Word of God as a necessary part of our spiritual life.

I love how I see people engaging creatively in God’s Word. One of the cutest ways I have seen over the past few years is when homebuilders write scriptures on the beams, walls, and foundations of their unfinished homes! My house was already built when we purchased it. Had it not been, I would have copied that idea. I love the idea of the Word of God being included in the building of a home.

You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

1 Peter 2:5 tells us that we are being built into spiritual houses! We, like unfinished houses, are still being constructed and framed. The enemy of our soul would love for hurt, pain, and all sorts of trauma to be at the core of our house. So, we must intentionally ensure that the Word of God is a part of our spiritual construction. We must thoughtfully allow God’s Word to be written on the walls of our hearts and the beams of our minds. Christ Himself is our Firm Foundation, and with the Word of God written on our hearts, we will offer unto God what will be pleasing and acceptable to Him.

So, friends, make time daily to engage with God’s precious Word. Make time for it! Begin your time with prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind to whatever God has for you. Remember, drawing near to God is a continual process. Be patient with yourself and persistent in your efforts, trusting that as you engage with His Word, your relationship with your Father will deepen over time.

In this week’s devotional guide, we will continue discussing the Word of God. We will also talk about Praise and Worship as a spiritual discipline. Worship and praise help us enter into the presence of the Lord, where there is a fullness of joy.
