Summer is finally here! Whether you enjoy the hot sunny days or bask inside in the air condition, embrace the summer season as an opportunity to bloom where you are planted. Let the longer days and shorter nights of summer bring moments of joy, relaxation, and spiritual refreshing. May this season fill your heart with warmth as you bask in the splendor of God’s creation.

We’ve come to the end of Week Three of the Embrace the Word study, “Bold Prayer: Ask, Seek, Knock,” based on Matthew 7:7-11. Week Three was all about seeking in prayer!

Seeking the Lord is something that often gets lost in our desires. However, when it comes to prayer, seeking God’s direction and His perfect will are paramount to finding the answers we desire.

King David found this out the hard way. King David wanted to move the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, the center of worship at the time. His heart was in the right place, but he went about it all the wrong way. After an utter failure, he sought the Lord. David didn’t just want God to fix it; he wanted God to fix him! He sought the Lord through His precepts and saw the error of his way. He then decided to do things God’s way (read more in 1 Chronicles chapters 13-16)!

After successfully bringing the Ark into Jerusalem, God’s way, David penned a beautiful psalm of praise found in 1 Chronicles 16. Among his praise, he said:

Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! 1 Chronicles 16:11

In prayer, getting caught up in seeking temporary things that offer fleeting satisfaction is easy. However, 1 Chronicles 16:11 reminds us of the ultimate source of strength and fulfillment – the Lord Himself. Just as David exhorts us to “Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore,” let us turn our hearts towards Him in earnest pursuit. Let’s seek His face more than we do His hands. When we seek God’s presence, we tap into an infinite wellspring of strength, peace, and grace that sustains us through every season of life. May we prioritize seeking God because when we seek Him, He will supply everything we need.

It’s Week Four! This week, we will explore what it means to knock in prayer.
