Embrace the Word ~ May 2023: The Holy Spirit: Welcoming the Comforter
Your birthday is coming! Our birthday is coming! If you have accepted the Lord Jesus as your Savior, then you are a part of the Lord’s church. Pentecost represents the birth of the church. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Church age was ushered in. The disciples, 12 ordinary men, were emboldened and endued with power to change the world! That power is still available to us today.
Pentecost is the Church’s birthday, and the Holy Spirit is God’s gift. The Holy Spirit is not a thing; He is a person. The third person in the trinity–God the Holy Spirit.
He is the fulfillment of Old Testaments prophecies:
I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:27
He is the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:15-17
He is the Inner Witness who lives on the inside of EVERY believer:
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:16
His gifts empower believers to impact the world for Christ:
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31
The Holy Spirit is a precious gift. He indwells us, teaches us, convicts us, comforts us, changes us, He empowers us. He makes us new.
The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and we should welcome Him daily. Invite Him to guide you to all truths. Invite Him to teach and remind you of God’s precious Word. Invite Him to empower you to walk in your gifts and callings. Invite Him to change your life.
This month, let’s celebrate our birthday together with the theme, The Holy Spirit: Welcoming the Comforter. Let’s Embrace the Word and welcome the Comforter again and again.
The Embrace the Word reading/writing plan is designed to help you dive deep into the Word to change your life. I invite you to go deeper! Dig into the context of each passage.
