Hi family,

Welcome to Week Four of our Embrace the Word Study, “James: A Faith that Works!” It has been a joy to share in God’s truth with each of you!

(Link to the FREE Devotional Guide at the end of this email)

This past week, we dove into James 2:18-20 through James 4:6, tackling some thought-provoking themes. James challenged us with powerful metaphors, especially concerning the tongue. We explored the immense power of our words and how crucial it is to use them wisely.

This week, we had a reminder of a vital truth: our speech is a reflection of our faith and character. Remember, faith without actionable steps toward change is ineffective, and this certainly applies to our communication with others. James makes it clear that the tongue, though small, can wield significant influence—like a spark that can ignite a raging forest fire (James 3:5-6). He cautions us about the consequences of reckless speech and urges us to be intentional with our words. We cannot bless God and curse others with the same tongue (James 3:9-10). Instead, we are called to exercise self-control and wisdom, using our words to uplift, encourage, and reflect the love of Christ.

As we discussed at the beginning of our study, reading these passages in context is essential to grasp the full message of James’ letter. All the topics are interconnected, emphasizing that an active and working faith employs God’s wisdom to control the tongue and cultivate peace in our relationships.

We wrapped up this week with a powerful call to humility, setting the stage for this week. Next week, we will explore James’ seven commands for believers who wish to resist the pull of the world. These important imperatives beautifully echo the teachings of Jesus. Let’s jump in!

I look forward to our continued journey together!
