Spurgeon and the Psalms – Book Review
Hello Family,
I am so happy to have the opportunity to review the NKJV Spurgeon and the Psalms (The Book of Psalms with Devotions from Charles Spurgeon). I received this psalter free for being a Bible Gateway Blogger Grid member and was very excited to see the features of this devotional psalter. ‘
Charles Spurgeon remains one of the church’s most renowned voices. His sermons have inspired believers for many, many years and will for years to come. Including Spurgeon’s words in this book of Psalms is a great idea.
This book is lovely. Its leather-like cover is very nice. The psalter is small enough to fit in your purse or other tote bags. The margins are large so that you can add notes or journal on the page. I especially love that this book is offered in the NKJV version. You all know that is my version of choice for Bible reading. There are also reference scriptures included
Overall, however, I am underwhelmed with the NKJV Spurgeon and the Psalms. It is, indeed, a collaboration of the Psalms and the words of Charles Spurgeon. I was just hoping for more. Before each Psalm is a short (very short) devotional entry of Spurgeon’s, and that’s pretty much it. There is a little about Spurgeon in the introduction, and that is all. You can get more of Spurgeon’s content from other books and devotionals because there is just not much in this book.

I believe the NKJV Spurgeon and the Psalms would be a good gift for someone new in the faith or for someone studying the Book of Psalms for the first time.
Other features include:
- Clear and readable 9.5-point NKJV Comfort Print
- Maclaren blue highlights and verse numbers.
