Teach Us to Pray Week 3: Prayers for Wisdom & Direction

Hi friend,

We are in Week 3 of our study, Teach Us to Pray: Prayers From the Psalms.

Last week in Week 2, we leaned into Prayers for Mercy & Restoration. We brought our heavy hearts, our failures, and our mistakes into the light. We were reminded that God’s mercy (Hesed, His steadfast love) is always greater than our worst missteps. True confession isn’t about wallowing in guilt; it’s the very door that opens us up to restored joy, peace, and freedom in Jesus.

If you carried a heavy heart into last week, I pray you are walking into this new week feeling lighter, cleansed, and renewed in His unfailing grace!

Now, as we move into Week 3: Prayers for Wisdom & Direction. This week focuses on how to pray when you are standing at a crossroads, making big decisions, or preparing to step into a new season. Whether you are navigating a shift in your family, career, personal life, or spiritual walk, we all hit moments when we need more than human strategy — we need God’s wisdom!

Every psalm this week is a psalm of David. Israel’s greatest earthly king teaches us so much about prayer. Throughout this week, we’ll see how King David constantly sought God’s light, counsel, and peace. He asked for wisdom every single hour. David totally depended on God, knowing that He doesn’t just point out the way from a distance, but faithfully guides us through every hour of every day.

David reached a level of pure devotion and true intimacy with God that allowed him to trust Him completely, even when he experienced overwhelm.

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2
