2023 year in review: may–The Holy Spirit: Welcoming the Comforter

In May, we focused on the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Our Theme was The Holy Spirit: Welcoming the Comforter. During this month, I was blessed to share excerpts from my book, Dwell: Living Life Fully, Knowing that the Holy Spirit Lives in You!

The Holy Spirit is a precious gift. He indwells us, teaches us, convicts us, comforts us, changes us; He empowers us. He makes us new. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and we should welcome Him daily. It is important to cultivate a fruitful relationship with the Holy Spirit. It should be a beautiful friendship because the Holy Spirit is a person. He is not an inanimate object or a mystical presence. He is as accurate in us as your closest friend. He IS a friend who leads us to what is best for our lives.

Here are some ways to cultivate your relationship with the Holy Spirit:

  • Know Him as a Teacher (1 Corinthians 2:13)

We invite the Holy Spirit in when we come to the Word with open hearts and minds. He helps us understand spiritual truths. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, we cannot fully understand spiritual truths.

  • Know Him as a Helper (John 14:26)

The Holy Spirit is the helper we need at all times. He brings comfort and aid. He is the divine power we need to help us endure hardness as good soldiers (2 Timothy 2:3).

  • Know and Welcome His Conviction (John 16:7-8)

The Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin. He is the one who draws the unbelieving heart to Christ. The Holy Spirit continues to work in the life of the believer. He sweetly convicts us to help us grow up and mature spiritually.

  • Know Him as an Intercessor (Romans 8:26-27)

We don’t know everything; sometimes, we don’t even know what to pray for. There are times when our hearts are so heavy that we can’t pray! It is in these times that the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us.

In 2024, continue to Welcome the Comforter in your heart. Don’t take the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence for granted! Remember, He is God, living in you. Cultivate a fruitful relationship with Him. Invite Him to guide you to all truths. Invite Him to teach and remind you of God’s precious Word. Invite Him to empower you to walk in your gifts and callings. Invite Him to change your life.
