Birthday Hope

Hi Sparrow’s Song Family! Today is my son’s 24th birthday! Help me celebrate by giving God all the praise for what he has done in my sweet son’s life.

Every parent knows that sometimes the days are long, but the years are short. Both my sweethearts are adults now, and my mommy heart greatly misses their childhood days. Make no mistake, however, some days, it seemed I had more than my fair share of struggle.

So on my son’s birthday, I wanted to share a few scriptures that brought me hope on hard days. And since parenting adults is no cakewalk, these words of life still breathe fresh hope in tough times.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7

When anxieties arise about your children, stop and pray. Bring every care to the Father. Place your requests on the altar and thank God for the beautiful child He has given you. When you do this, the Lord will guard your heart and mind with His perfect peace.

Be confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

Claim every promise that God has given you for your child. Believe that God has begun a good work, and He looks over His word to perform it. He will not quit without completing the work He began.

All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

This promise was made to the Israelites by the prophet Jeremiah. We can embrace this powerful promise and then go to work teaching our children the ways of the Lord. When we teach them well, they will know Who to run to when they face uncertainties and trials. They will walk in peace.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:13-14

David wrote that God knew him even as he was formed in the womb. He was uniquely created. Every child is made in the image of God. EVERYTHING He made is good. Speak to them like the beautiful work of God that they are.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

Your children are a masterpiece–God’s masterpiece. He has great work to do. There is a good plan that God prepared before the beginning of time. Don’t let what they are doing now stop you from believing that God can work in and through them. Praise God for how He created your children, then pray that they become everything He designed them to be.

Thank you for celebrating my son’s birthday with me! He is one of my testimonies of hope.

Let your hope be anchored in the truth God declares for your children. Embrace that truth, and speak it over your children, grandchildren, neighborhood children, and any children in your realm of influence.
