“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 136:1

This week, we focused on many things for which we should be grateful. The most important of these things is the steadfast love of God. Psalm 136 begins with a powerful declaration of gratitude, inviting us to recognize the numerous ways God has shown us His goodness.

We see His goodness in creation. From the beauty of a sunrise to the intricate design of a landscape, God’s goodness is seen in the things that He has created. Each day, we have the opportunity to behold His handiwork and be reminded of His creative power. And not just in nature, but also in each and every person we see, for we are all fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20

We see His goodness as He blesses our lives: Count your blessings! Your family and friends, provision and protection, life, health, and strength. All of your blessings are evidence of God’s goodness in your life. Even in hard times, God’s faithfulness intersects our lives, bringing comfort, peace, and hope. When you count your blessings, you can only conclude that God is good!

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Psalm 103:2

We see His goodness in His fulfilled promises: God has given us “exceedingly great and precious promises” that reveal His character ( 2 Peter 1:4). Each and every promise is for our good and for His glory. And every promise is fulfilled in Jesus. As we meditate on His promises, we are reminded of His faithfulness to His Word and to us.

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20

Let’s take time to intentionally thank God for His goodness! His has been so good to us, and His goodness never runs out.

The gratitude will continue this week as we dive deeper into God’s Word to discover more reasons to give thanks!

TIME TO LEVEL UP! We will continue our THANKS and GIVING challenge. And It’s time to level up! This week, we will take intentional steps to eliminate complaining from our lives. You may not realize how often you complain until you consciously make an effort to stop. Don’t be hard on yourself if you slip up. Instead, each time you find yourself complaining, replace those words by praising God for three things. Let praise flow from your lips more often than complaints! (see Philippians 2:14-16)
