Hello, family, old and new! I’m glad you are here, and I am so excited for you to join us in this month’s Embrace the Word study, Bold Identity: YOU through the mirror of God’s Word.

A mirror is a valuable tool to have in your home; if you are like me, you have many. The mirror is one of the first things I see each morning, and I look into it several times before I leave the house for the day. I’m not vain. I want to see what I look like and make the necessary adjustments to be presentable. I want to ensure that if something is out of place, it is attended to. I want to ensure that I apply my make-up correctly. Practically, it just makes sense to employ the help of a mirror.
It is the same way with our identity. If we want to truly know what we look like and make the adjustments necessary to be presentable to God, if we want to attend to what is out of place and ensure that we are applying His precepts correctly, we must look into the mirror of God’s Word!
James 1:23-25 says:
[23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; [24] for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. [25] But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
This passage emphasizes the importance of not just hearing God’s Word but actively reflecting on it. It acts as a mirror, showing us our true identity in Christ. A BOLD identity comes from both recognizing the truth of who we are in God’s eyes and living out that truth. Looking into the “perfect law of liberty” helps us understand our identity in Christ and frees us to live boldly and confidently.
The Bible contains so many truths about who we are that we could not capture them all. But we have a curated list that will remind you or help you discover who God has called and crafted you to be.
Along with our reading and writing plan, a FREE Devotional Guide is available each week. This guide will help you reflect on and grow in your understanding of God’s Word.
I believe this study will be a wonderful opportunity for fellowship, growth, and joy in our walk with Christ. I am looking forward to embarking on this journey with you!
