Hello family,

Welcome to Week Three of the Embrace the Word study — Hope in Every Season: A 30-Day Journey Through the Story of Joseph. I’m so glad you’re continuing this hope-filled journey with us.

(The link to the FREE Devotional Guide is at the end of this email.)

In Week Two, we saw God doing some incredible things in Joseph’s life. He interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and was elevated to second-in-command in Egypt. Through God’s wisdom, Joseph makes a plan to save Egypt from a severe famine. And finally, he encounters his brothers. We see God’s hand moving!

I want to briefly focus on a surprising and encouraging response in Genesis 43:23. As the brothers were preparing to depart from Egypt after their encounter with Joseph (unbeknownst to them), Joseph instructed his servant to place each man’s silver (the money they paid for grain) back in their sack. When the brothers discovered this, they were afraid, thinking they’d be in real trouble now!

On their second trip, they attempt to explain the mix-up, but Joseph’s Egyptian steward says, “Peace be to you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has put treasure in your sacks; I have received your money.”

Why does the steward say this? We clearly read that Joseph had the money placed in their sacks.

Though Joseph is the one who returned their money, the steward recognizes that Joseph’s actions are part of a bigger plan–a divine plan. He understands that God is working behind the scenes to protect and provide for these men. By attributing the blessing to God, the steward acknowledges that God is actively orchestrating events, even in ways that may not be obvious.

This is a reminder of the second major point from our study: God is always ACTIVELY involved in our lives, working His beautiful plan to bring Him glory! Joseph’s actions were not a coincidence or just human kindness; they are part of God’s sovereign work to preserve His people and move the story of redemption forward.

As you dive into Week Three, remember that God is working in your life too. God is not distant or passive but involved in every detail, weaving hope and purpose through every season.
