Hello family,

Welcome to Week Four of the Embrace the Word study — Hope in Every Season: A 30-Day Journey Through the Story of Joseph. Thank you for journeying with us through this study on HOPE in God’s faithfulness and promises.

(The link to the FREE Devotional Guide is at the end of this email.)

Week Three was AMAZING! So many moments stirred our hearts (and, if you are like me, brought tears to your eyes). I want to focus on a striking moment from this past week of study. Genesis 48:1-22 tells about Jacob blessing Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. Jacob deliberately crosses his hands to give the greater blessing to Ephraim, the younger son, instead of Manasseh, the firstborn. God is sovereign, and His choice often surprises us. His plans are higher than ours, and in that, we find true hope.

Jacob’s intentional blessing shows that God’s ways are not ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Even when our expectations suggest one outcome, God’s sovereign hand directs the details for His perfect purpose. The blessing of Ephraim over Manasseh reminds us that God sees the bigger picture and knows what is best, even when it defies human reason.

This truth invites us to trust God’s wisdom and timing in every season of life. Just as Joseph’s journey—from favored son to prisoner to leader—was shaped by God’s sovereign plan working through unexpected twists and turns, we too can hold onto hope knowing that God is actively working all things for good (Romans 8:28). Our hope is anchored in the confidence that God’s choices are perfect, and His plans will bring glory to Himself and blessing to us.

As you reflect on this passage, consider how God’s sovereign choices exceed your expectations and invite you to trust Him more deeply. When life takes unexpected turns or God’s plan surprises you, remember that His wisdom and love guide every detail. This reminds us of this Week Three’s truth: God’s sovereign hand guides every detail of our lives.

In Week Four, focus on the character of the people involved in Joseph’s story. Notice how God works in their lives.
