Hello Family,

It’s almost week four of March and Week Four of our Embrace the Word study, “Proverbs: Wisdom for Today.”

(Link to the FREE Devotional Guide at the end of this email)

The “Footprints in the Sand” poem is one of the most enduring poems to many Christians. You know the one. It tells the story of a person reflecting on their life, noticing only one set of footprints during the hardest times. They come to the joyful realization that God carried them through their struggles, leaving behind only one set of steps.

Well, let me tell you friend, whether you know it or not, you are indeed leaving behind footprints. But where do they lead? If someone were to trace those prints, what would they find? Would they see consistent steps toward God? Or would they see a web of missteps, backtracks, and detours? For me, it would be the latter. I’m a recovered know-it-all who just simply doesn’t know it all. After falling on my face a few thousand times, I finally decided to do it God’s way.

Understand, friends, that while God carries us through challenges, we must make choices that demonstrate our desire to pursue Him wholeheartedly—moving forward, not retreating. It’s about saying “yes” to Him and genuinely living out that commitment.

This can only happen when we yield our will to the Lord. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

As we navigate this life, we do our best to make plans, but it is the Lord who guides our steps and empowers us to fulfill our intentions. Sometimes, He even alters our plans as He births new desires in our hearts.

We must have the faith to submit to His will, trusting that our Father knows what is best for us. Allow Him to alter your plans or even change them altogether. Let His will and His Word shape your desires and dreams. When we truly trust that He knows best, we can walk confidently and courageously in the steps He has ordered for us.

As we close this first quarter of 2025, many of us are wisely reassessing our plans. As you outline your goals for the coming months, remember to submit those plans to God. Don’t just fill your planner or update your calendar—place your plans in the hands of the Lord. Surrender your dreams and aspirations to Him, and be willing to say “yes” to His will and ways.

Then, two sets of steps will be present on your journey. The steps of our faithful Lord and His obedient child.
