Proverbs: Wisdom for Today: Week 3
Hello Family,
We are heading into Week Three of our Embrace the Word study, “Proverbs: Wisdom for Today.” This past week, we studied many topics, including heeding wise counsel, managing anger, and even talking too much! Relationships and how we treat one another are also themes we find in Proverbs. Specifically treating each other with kindness.

“A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.” Proverbs 11:17
Kindness is a virtue that can affect change—both for the giver and the receiver. Kindness shown toward others directly impacts our own well-being! When we extend kindness, we not only encourage others, we also encourage our own hearts.
In a world that is becoming increasingly cold, a warm smile, an encouraging word, or a listening ear means so much to those in need. Kindness stands out like rays of sunshine among the darkness. It creates connections, fosters community, and helps to build trust. When we choose kindness, we reflect the love of God.
The impact of kindness is echoed throughout Scripture:
In Ephesians 4:32, we are encouraged to “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” This teaches the importance of extending forgiveness to others, just as we have received forgiveness from God.
In Micah 6:8, God’s expectations are made clear. We are called to “do justice,” “love kindness,” and “walk humbly with your God.” These are actionable ways to live out our faith authentically and maintain a compassionate, others-focused community.
In Colossians 3:12, we are instructed to “put on” kindness as one of the virtues that bond believers together as the family of God.
In Galatians 5:22-23, kindness is one of God’s characteristics produced in us as we walk in the Spirit.
Ultimately, the perfect example of kindness is found in Jesus. His life on earth was marked by compassion and love for others. From healing the sick to dining with sinners, Jesus demonstrated kindness. He taught us to love our neighbors and enemies, showing that genuine kindness knows no boundaries.
As we strive to embody kindness in our own lives, let us remember the impact it can have on those around us. Choose kindness! It not only blesses others but also you!
