Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with Him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He will also deny us; if we are faithless,He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:11-13

Faithless. Unfortunately this word has described me at times.  There are times when I feel strong and my faith stands tall.  Then there are times when my faith is hard to find amiss the struggles and crisis I may be facing.  I take comfort in the beautiful words of 2 Timothy 2:11-13.  Paul describes these words as “trustworthy”.  We can take these words to heart.  Believe them because they are true and faithful.  These trustworthy words can revive and recharge a broken spirit.

Paul quotes early Christian lyricists who penned this popular song.  This expresses several realities in the Christian faith.

1). If we died with Him. If we have trusted in the finished work of Christ, we have died to this world so that we may live for Christ.

2). If we endure. If we endure we are promised an eternal reward.  We will reign with Christ.

3).  If we deny Him. If we turn our backs on the truth of the gospel, we will be denied when we stand before The Father.

4).  If and when we are faithless, He remains faithful.  He is consistent in character.  Not fickle like we can sometimes be.  He does not change.  His love for us remains. His desire to be with us remains.  He cares for us, even when our faith is weak, shaky, or even non existent.

Despite our actions, God remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself.  He cannot act contrary to His Word and His character.  This beautiful truth starts with God and ends with God.  He is altogether faithful!
