Summer in the Psalms-I WILL Wednesday Psalm 61:4
It’s I WILL Wednesday!
“I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your Wings.” Psalm 61:4
In today’s I WILL Wednesday, Psalm 61 finds David in another difficult time in his life. He begins the Psalm with a cry for help. He says,
“Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth, I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.”
David was probably tired, exhausted, and needed some relief. As we have seen, David knew where to go and Who to seek in challenging times.
In the fourth verse, David declares to the Lord from the place of pain. He says, “I WILL abide in Your tabernacle forever.” David declared that he wanted to stay in the presence of God forever. He understood that the presence of God was the only place he could go to receive peace while dealing with the hostilities of his life. Because of the beautiful peace he found in God’s presence, he wanted to stay there FOREVER.
In God’s presence, we find peace and stability when everything around us seems hectic and shaky.
It is in the presence of God where we find joy when everything around us says we should be in despair.
It is in the presence of God where we find hope when everything around us says we should be in a state of hopelessness.
This is where David desired to be, and this is the place that is also available for us.
David also says, “I WILL trust in the shelter of Your Wings”! He used the imagery of the wings of a mother bird protecting her young. When it rains, they use their wings to cover their children. They use their wings to hide their children from the enemy when danger arises. The mother bird will also use her wings to hold her children close. David used the bird’s relation to her young to show how he saw his relationship with God. In the arms of God, David would be sheltered from enemy attacks, hidden in God’s love, and drawn close to Him.
We can enjoy this beautiful relationship too!
Protected by Him.
Comforted by Him.
Sheltered by Him.
We can abide in God’s presence forever and trust in His protection.
We can also declare this every day; “I WILL abide in His Tabernacle, and I WILL Tru
st in the shelter of His Wings!”
