Welcome to Week 4 of our Embrace the Word Summer in the Psalms study, “The Psalms of Ascents: A Journey to God”!

This week, we reach the summit of the Psalms of Ascents. As we complete these final psalms, we get to watch all of our weekly themes come to a powerful conclusion. Over the past three weeks, we’ve climbed through God’s Perfect Protection, anchored our souls in True Rest, and walked the path of Humility and Endurance. This week we will explore the Unity & Blessing in the Psalms of Ascents.

During these final few days together, we will explore how every single one of these themes finds its ultimate fulfillment in the person and finished work of Jesus Christ. He is not just our guide along the pilgrim road; He is the destination itself.

In the final Psalms of Ascents, Psalms 133 and 134, the travelers finally stand at the temple gates. They marvel at how good and pleasant it is to dwell together in unity. They lift their hands during the night shift of the sanctuary to bless the Maker of heaven and earth. It is a stunning picture of corporate unity and divine blessing.

But as the travelers prepare to head back down the mountain into their ordinary routines, a natural question arises: How do we keep the blessing alive when the special season ends? How do we maintain true unity where God commands blessings?

The New Testament gives us the answer. The old covenant temple was never meant to be the final stopping point; it was a shadow pointing directly to Jesus. God’s plan of unity and blessing was never about a temporary gathering on a hill in Jerusalem. It was always centered on a Person.

Look at how Paul unfolds this grand fulfillment in Ephesians 1:3–10:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places Ephesians 1:3

(Open your Bibles and read the whole thing, Besties!)

Think about the scope of that truth! Every single blessing the pilgrims sang about on the road, the perfect protection, the true rest, the humility to endure, and the beautiful unity and blessing, is found in Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Where human kings failed, Jesus stood completely righteous. Where human relationships fracture, Jesus breaks down the wall of hostility, binding us together in His own body. God’s presence is no longer confined to a physical building where priests watch the fire by night. Through Christ’s finished work, the Holy Spirit lives within us.

You don’t have to journey up a mountain to search for blessings. Everyday, journey closer and closer and abide in Jesus.

Looking forward to journeying together this week!
