We are always “ascending” (Week 3 Summer in the Psalms 2026: Humility & Endurance)
Hey besties,
We’ve officially crossed into Week 3 of our journey through the Psalms of Ascents, and I wanted to pause and talk about something that usually hits us right about now, the middle of the climb.
When we start a new goal, a spiritual focus, or a personal reset, we are fueled by high energy. But the middle? The middle is where the dust kicks up, our legs get tired, and we start wondering how much further we have to go.
It’s in this exact space that these ancient songs offer us a powerful, perspective-shifting truth:
Spiritual growth is a process, not a destination. On this road with God, we are always “ascending.” The pilgrims didn’t sing these songs after they arrived safely in Jerusalem. They sang them while they were still climbing. The climb itself was the classroom.
This week, our focus narrows down to the two heavy pillars that keep us moving forward on the incline: Humility and Endurance.
1. Humility (Dropping the Weight)
We cannot climb a mountain while carrying a travel pack filled with pride, anxiety, or the need to control every outcome. This week is teaching us to lay it down.
- We learn to stop frantic, late-night striving because we trust that God is the ultimate Builder (Psalm 127).
- We learn to stop demanding an explanation from God, choosing instead to quiet our anxious minds like a content, weaned child resting in a parent’s arms (Psalm 131).
Humility is realizing you don’t have to carry the weight of being the savior of your own life.
2. Endurance (Keep Stepping)
On this road, we will face opposition, dry seasons, and exhaustion. Endurance is the grit that keeps our feet moving anyway.
- It’s looking at the deep, painful furrows life has plowed into our backs and declaring, “They did not prevail” (Psalm 129).
- It’s standing watch in the cold, dark hours of the night, waiting for a breakthrough with the absolute certainty that God’s morning is coming (Psalm 130).
If you’ve been feeling anxious because your life, your home, or your walk with God doesn’t look “finished” yet, take a deep breath. It’s not supposed to be finished. You are in the middle of the ascent.
Let’s stop stressing over the distance left to travel. Let’s grab onto the humility to trust the Architect, find the endurance to take the next step, and keep climbing together.
