Hi Family,

Welcome to Week 2 of Complete in Him: The Sufficiency of Christ in Colossians! I am so excited as we step into this next chapter together. If Week 1 was about beholding the preeminence and supreme deity of Jesus, Week 2 is about uncovering what we actually possess because we belong to Him!

Have you ever felt subtle pressure to look outside of God’s Word for answers, whether through popular self-help trends, pop-psychology tropes, human traditions, or “secret” spiritual formulas to feel more spiritual or secure?

It’s so easy for the world’s high-sounding arguments to sound wise on the surface. But Paul picked up his pen from a Roman prison to warn us that these counterfeits are completely empty. They promise freedom and growth, but they hold zero power to transform our hearts or satisfy our souls. All the hidden treasures of divine wisdom, righteousness, and peace aren’t buried in worldly trends. They are found in Jesus Christ!

This Week’s Key Scripture:

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority. Colossians 2:8-10

The Greek word Paul uses for “takes you captive” literally means to kidnap or carry off as plunder. When we let worldly philosophies, pop-psychology tropes, or legalistic performance checklists shape our thinking, we are letting our minds be kidnapped away from simple devotion to Jesus.

Paul calls us to carefully examine and guard what we allow to influence our hearts. The enemy doesn’t always come with an obvious lie; often, he mixes a little truth with worldly reasoning to create a subtle counterfeit. But you don’t have to be taken captive or fall for “Jesus-plus” mentalities!

Why? Because, as verses 9 and 10 declare, all the fullness of the Godhead lives in Jesus, and you are complete in Him! You don’t operate at a spiritual deficit. Jesus canceled your debt of sin, nailed your guilt to the cross, and completely disarmed every power that could come against you.

This Week’s Focus:

As we move through Days 8–14, we are discovering that:

  • You possess complete spiritual fullness: Because the divine fullness dwells bodily in Christ, you are filled to capacity in Him. You don’t need secret rituals, legalistic rules, or trendy spiritual practices to be complete.
  • Your debt is fully paid: Jesus set aside the law that condemned you. You are free to serve God not out of fear or performance, but in the new way of the Holy Spirit!
  • You possess the Substance, not the shadows: You don’t have to chase after human traditions or religious checklists when you already have the Savior!

You don’t need Jesus plus human effort. You don’t need Jesus plus worldly trends. Rest in the liberating truth that Jesus is enough, and you are COMPLETE IN HIM!
