It is easy to say, “I am a child of God,” but ignore the realities of what the sons and daughters of God are like. Christians are considered to be adopted sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ. We are expected to live and work to represent Christ to the world and to show love and unity for one another.

[28] And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. [29] If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.

1 John 2:28-29

As children of God, our identity is firmly rooted in the love and grace of our Heavenly Father. The apostle John reminds us in 1 John 2:28-29 that through our faith in Christ, we have been welcomed into God’s family. No longer are we strangers or outsiders, but beloved sons and daughters who have the promise of eternal life.

When we abide in Christ and allow His Word to shape our lives, we will begin to reflect His righteousness. This is not a righteousness of our own doing but one that is freely given to us through the sacrifice of Jesus. Through Him, we have become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). As we grow in our relationship with God, our actions and character will start to mirror His holiness, revealing to the world that we truly belong to Him.

Let us then, with confidence and assurance, live out our identity as children of God. Let’s fully embrace the incredible privilege of being called children of God and all the responsibility that comes with it. May our lives be a testament to the power of His love, as we eagerly await the day when we see our Savior face-to-face, secure in the knowledge that we are His. For in Him, we find our true worth and purpose.

This week, we look at our identity through Christ as His witnesses in the world. We are called to show the world who Jesus is!
