Embrace the Word ~ September 2023: Colossians – Week 3 (Free Devotional Guide)
Just one more week until Fall. I cannot wait. I love the brisk mornings and the changing of the leaves. Though I am not a big fan of pumpkin spice, I am a boot and sweater kind of girl, so Fall is my season!
We are starting our third week of our Embrace the Word study, Colossians: Jesus is enough.

In week two, Paul used skillful arguments to destroy the lies of the false teachers and let the new believers at Colossae know that Jesus is all they need. Chapter two challenged us to look at our own lives and see where we have adopted legalistic practices, trying to please God with works instead of standing complete in Christ.
We identify with Christ in His death and burial and are now raised together with Him. What Jesus did for us is enough, and we should give Him our lives in return for His great love. This was a novel idea to the Colossians, but it is a central idea that runs throughout chapter three.
This week, we will examine chapter three of Colossians. Verse one starts with the words “If then” (or since, therefore), tying everything Paul says in chapter three back to His message in the first two chapters. He is saying, “Since these things are true, then you should . . . . “He goes on to give practical instructions to the new church that radically cut against their culture and how they lived. These instructions are very relevant to us today! They are challenging, to say the least, but when applied, they can radically transform the Lord’s Church. They were given that we might be changed and that the Lord’s Church be unified.
It wasn’t easy choosing the key passage from this week’s chapter. I settled on Colossians 3:12–13, but one of my favorite passages of scripture is found in Colossians. It is Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
We should allow the Word of Christ to inhabit every space of our lives. The Word will change our lives if it dwells richly in us. Fall in love with God’s Word! You will come to know God through the beautiful treasures He has given us. Thank You for Embracing the Word with me!
