Encounters with God: You Will Never Be the Same Week 3

Hello Sparrow’s Song Family,

Welcome to Week Three of our April study, Encounters with God: You Will Never Be the Same.

This week, we are stepping into the Gospels to witness some of the most precious encounters in history. In the Gospel, God did not show up in a burning bush, or as a “cloud by day and fire by night.” He came in the form of a Man who sat at tables, touched the broken, and engaged the outcasts. This week is about intimacy. It’s about the God who doesn’t just call us to a mountain, but comes down into our mess to meet us face-to-face. It’s about encounters with Jesus!

As we prepare our hearts for these New Testament encounters, let’s look at this truth:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

The word “dwelt” literally means He “pitched His tent” or “tabernacled” with us. God never intended to be distant. He always desires to be close to us. From the beginning, as he walked with Adam in the garden, He always made ways to dwell with us. From the tabernacle to the temple to the unique ways in which He encountered humanity, God always desires to intersect our lives with His glory. In the Old Testament, the glory of God was veiled, but in the New Testament, Jesus, the very expression of God’s glory, walked among men.

As we study the encounters of the New Testament, we see that His glory isn’t just found in whirlwinds or earthquakes, it is found in His “Grace and Truth.” Grace that welcomes us as we are, and Truth to ensure we don’t stay that way. We will look at familiar stories, but don;t let that stop you from engaging. As you look at the Samaritan woman at the well, the Gerasene demoniac, and The Thief on the Cross (and others) this week, prepare your heart to be transformed by the Word.

The same Jesus who walked those roads is walking through your life today. He is still full of grace, still full of truth, and still changing every heart He touches.

I can’t wait to see how the “Word Made Flesh” encounters you this week.

Grace and Peace,
