Encounters with God: You Will Never Be the Same Week 4
Hello Sparrow’s Song Family,
Welcome to Week Four of our April study, Encounters with God: You Will Never Be the Same.
As we enter our final full week, our focus turns to the power of the Resurrected Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We begin in a garden, at an empty tomb, experiencing an encounter that transformed the sorrow of a Friday into the triumph of a Sunday.
As we move from the physical presence of Jesus in the Gospels to His post-ascension appearances, we find ourselves at a beautiful intersection of history and personal experience. As you prepare your hearts for these studies, let’s look at this truth:
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. 1 John 1:1, 4
John isn’t just recounting a story; he is documenting a reality—his firsthand experience. He is sharing that they have heard, seen, and even touched Jesus, and is now sharing this truth with us!
John describes the joy that comes from sharing this testimony and the invitation for others to engage in the same fellowship with the Father and His Son, and Holy Spirit, leading to the fullness of joy.
This is the essence of why we share our God encounters. Sharing or writing them down helps us to build a record of God’s goodness, mercy, and grace in our lives. We also share to chronicle the transformation that occurs in our lives. By capturing the way we become carriers of His glory and how we have grown from glory to glory, we can look back and see the steady thread of His faithfulness.
I encourage you to share the numerous times and ways you have encountered God. Throughout this month, we’ve used five anchor questions to guide our journey. Reflect on these questions:
- Who encounters God–You!
- What are the details surrounding their encounter? Be specific and capture every detail. Just as we saw with Moses at the burning bush, the details are significant.
- What has God revealed about you? For example, do you need to release fear? Are you seeking more of the Fruit of the Spirit in your life?
- How has your life changed? Consider how God has refined you. Has He given you a new mission?
- What has God revealed about Himself? Perhaps you have come to know Him as a healer or the God of all comfort, who is near to the broken-hearted.
Like John, who was filled with joy as he shared his experience with Jesus, it should be our greatest delight to tell the world about a God who lives, loves, and saves.
From Mary in the garden to the Church at Pentecost, these encounters affirm that the Living God continues to intersect our lives with His glory. As you share this week, I pray your joy will be made complete, knowing the Resurrected Christ walks with you.
Grace and Peace,
