Encounters with God: You Will Never Be the Same Week 5

Welcome to the last two days of our study, Encounters: You will never be the same. What a beautiful month this has been!

As you continue to “glean the fields” of Scripture (Ruth is still so heavy on my heart!), you will continue to discover encounters with God that transformed the lives of people. From Adam walking in the cool of the Garden, to Lydia, the seller of purple, whose heart the Lord opened, to John’s breathtaking view of the Throne Room, we have seen that God is always intersecting our lives for our good and for His glory.

Let’s look at one final, The Roman Jailer’s Family (Acts 16:25–34).

Paul and Silas sat in chains in a Roman jail. Instead of crying and complaining, they were singing hymns at midnight. Then suddenly, an earthquake shook the foundations of the prison.

In a frantic rush, the jailer awoke to find the doors flung open, believing his prisoners had escaped and fearing for his life. In a panic, he drew his sword to end his life, but Paul shouted, “Do not harm yourself! We are all here!” The confused jailer was drawn to the integrity of Paul and Silas.

The jailer asked “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Then he believed in the Lord Jesus and was saved. His life was filled with new joy, and he was ready to share, so the jailer took Paul and Silas to his home. There, Paul shared the gospel, and joy filled the room as they all came to believe, surrendering to the grace of God, and were baptized.

Often, we focus on Paul and Silas, but it was the jailer who really encountered God that night. It only happened because God’s people were filled with joy in their relationship with Jesus; their situation did not steal their praise. The light of God’s love can also break through the darkness of midnight, even the deepest despair.

Their example shows us how joy in our relationship with Jesus can transform us and impact those around us.

As we close, remember that an encounter with God always requires a response. Each moment spent in His presence is an invitation to behold His beauty with an unveiled face (2 Corinthians 3:18). He meets you exactly where you are on your journey, but rest assured, He never intends for you to remain there. We should always be changing from one degree of glory to the next.

God is always intersecting our lives for our good and for His glory. seek Him everyday life, knowing that every encounter with God changes us–You will never be the same.

I am so grateful for the journey we’ve taken this month. But as this chapter closes, another is about to begin! Get ready to head to the coast—next month, we begin Anchored: Hope in God’s Promises, a deep dive into the shipwreck and survival of Acts 27 and 28, a look at how to hold on to the promises of God despite what we face. It’s going to be a powerful time in God’s Word!
