Hello family!

I hope that all is well with you and that you are blessed! We are in Week Two of the ETW study, Proverbs: Wisdom for Today. We have been digging into the treasure of God’ Word. As we study, we don’t want to just read but want to deeply engage with the Word until it is written on our hearts.

Bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:3

In Proverbs 3, Solomon advises his son to pursue God’s wisdom with purpose and intentionality. This call to seek wisdom is the foundation for a life well lived. This all begins when we align our lives to God’s Word. This includes our thoughts, words, and actions

In Proverbs 3, the son is urged not to forget his father’s teachings or stray from his commandments. The son is encouraged to bind steadfast love and faithfulness around his neck and to write these words, not on the tablet of stone, but on his heart.

In the same way, scripture stresses the importance of remembering and internalizing God’s Word.

In Deuteronomy 6:6-8, the Israelites were told that God’s commands would be on their hearts. They were strongly urged to talk about them often, they even wore phylacteries containing words from the Torah tied to their arms and on their foreheads (also see Deuteronomy 11:18).

In Jeremiah 31:33 the prophet tells of God’s promises to write His law on the hearts of His people. They would live with God’s Word deeply embedded within us, giving them a desire to obey Him.

In 2 Corinthians 3:3, Paul is saying that believers are a “letter from Christ.” Our lives, changed by the Holy Spirit, demonstrate the work of Christ within us. We are a living testimony of the gospel message without needing any physical letter or written proof; essentially, their lives are a visible manifestation of Christ’s presence through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The phrase “the word of God written on our heart” appears throughout Scripture, including Deuteronomy 11:18, 2 Corinthians 3:3, and Hebrews 8:10, emphasizing that God’s Word is personal and internalized, revealing His truth to us.

When God’s Word is written on our hearts, it signifies a deep, personal relationship with Him. It shapes our character, guides our decisions, and influences how we interact with others.
