Review-NIrV Journal the Word Bible for Girls

Hi family,

Today, I am reviewing the NIrV Journal the Word Bible for Girls. I received this Bible Free for being a Bible Gateway Blogger Grid member.

At first glance, this is an adorable Bible. The cover is navy blue, decorated with a pink and blue floral pattern. The spine of the Bible is so cute. It was definitely designed with the creative girl in mind.

This is a double-column Bible, with journaling lines along the sides of each page for girls to engage with scripture creatively and artistically. This Bible aims to help girls develop a love for God’s Word and Bible journaling. I can imagine mothers and daughters creating beautiful scripture art together.

My favorite feature of this Bible is the traceable verses. Some of the most beloved verses have been included in the margins in traceable font. This will help young girls become more comfortable with writing in their Bible. It will also help with “Scripture memorization,” as the description states.

Some things you may want to consider, the suggested age for this Bible is 6-10 years old. The journaling lines are primary ruled lines. Primary ruled lines are printed with solid lines above and below and a dotted line through the middle. This type of ruling is ideal for young children as it helps to foster good handwriting. The problem is primary lines are a little too kiddy for 10-year-olds (think 4th and 5th graders). Though the primary lines are ideal for 6-8-year-olds (think kindergarten to 3rd grade), the ones in this Bible are way too small. As a second-grade teacher, I think my students would find these lines too small to create artwork.

Another thing to keep in mind is this is a reader’s version, not a study Bible. There is no color or artwork on any page of this Bible. The child is supposed to create their own. Children need to see engaging images, cool fonts, or at least some type of color. There is none aside from the beautiful cover. If your child is a ‘blank slate’ type of child, this may be right for them.

Some other features of these Bibles include:

  • The complete text of the easy-to-read New International Reader’s Version is written at the 3rd-grade level.
  • Wide margins girls can use in three ways:
    • Lined side margins for taking notes
    • Blank side margins for drawing, coloring, and doodling
    • 100 verses for tracing to help with print and cursive penmanship and memorization
  • Thick pages for writing and doodling
  • Satin ribbon marker
  • Exclusive Zondervan NIrV Comfort Print typeface in 8.5-point print size.

If you are looking for a journaling Bible for a little girl, the NIrV Journal the Word Bible for Girls may be for you. This will make an excellent gift for the young artist in your life.
