Welcome to Week Four of Embrace the Word: Running With Endurance — our journey through Hebrews 11 and 12.

(Find the FREE Devotional Guide linked at the end of this email.)

Paul’s words in Philippians 3:12–14 give us a clear picture of enduring faith: not a complacent rest after one moment of believing, but a focused, disciplined pursuit. He borrows the runner’s language of competition to show what the Christian life looks like in practice. While Paul acknowledges he hasn’t yet “taken hold” of the prize, he chooses not to dwell on past failures or distractions. Instead, he is determined to move forward, intentionally leaving behind anything that might hinder him and reaching for what lies ahead.

Endurance, then, is marked by purposeful forward movement. It involves a daily commitment to run with our eyes fixed on Christ, rather than on the approval of others or the weight of our past mistakes. This race demands rhythm and stamina, cultivated through steady habits of spiritual discipline, repentance when we stumble, and a steadfast hope in Christ, our ultimate prize.

This kind of faith is sustained by grace, not perfection. The strength to run comes from God, not willpower, grit, or human strength. Setbacks, then, become opportunities, inviting us to refocus our gaze on Christ. As we endure, we are continually being shaped into His image.

So, set your sights ahead, friends, and keep pressing forward; that heavenly prize awaits you through Christ Jesus our Lord!

This week, we dive into Hebrews 12 to see Jesus as our greatest example and how God’s discipline, though it may be painful, is for our good.
